READ IT & WEEP: Churchill Style vs. Ryan Style
CHURCHILL STYLE has made an appearance in the Presidential election coverage of The New York Times.
In a front page Style section story today, headlined: Embracing the Right Fit, reporter Cathy Horyn offers a misattributing nod to a new book she identifies as “The Art of Being Winston Churchill,” while criticizing Republican Vice Presidential candidate Paul Ryan for wearing his suits a size too big. What Ryan – and, in fact, all the candidates – suffer from sartorially, according to Horyn, is “a lack of imagination” and the strength to be “indifferent to trends or criticism. Winston Churchill had that ability,” Horyn adds, “as a recent book, ‘The Art of Being Winston Churchill,’ makes clear.”
If only she’d gotten the title right.
Coming soon – a public correction from the Times, and a followup post from me that will fully contrast and compare in the best Churchill Style, the respective styles – fashion and otherwise – of Obama, Romney and Winston Churchill.
Stay tuned.
