Churchill Style: The Art of Being Winston Churchill

A NEW YEAR of CHURCHILL STYLE

by Barry Singer

Document19It’s not that there hasn’t been a great deal to say since my last post here back in May. It’s just that I have been saying it elsewhere. In May 2014, I began blogging for the Huffington Post and since then my energies have been directed Huffington-way.

So, permit me to catch everyone up: In June, more or less on the second anniversary of its publication, CHURCHILL STYLE: The Art of Being Winston Churchill, triumphantly reached its fourth printing. In November, I began contributing book reviews to USA TODAY, commencing with a review of Thomas Maier’s WHEN LIONS ROAR: The Churchills and the Kennedies (next up, my review of New York Times columnist Roger Cohen’s new memoir, THE GIRL FROM HUMAN STREET, due to run soon).

November was, in fact, the busiest month. On the 14th, I hosted a Chartwell Booksellers-sponsored launch at the Yale Club for London mayor Boris Johnson, and his new book, THE CHURCHILL FACTOR: How One Man Made History, moderating a discussion between the effervescent Mr. Johnson and Churchill biographer Paul Reid (co-author of the elusive final volume in Willliam Manchester’s magisterial trilogy, THE LAST LION). On the 17th, I spoke in Ottawa about Churchill Style  at the invitation of the Churchill Society of Ottawa, addressing an intrepid group on a frosty, snowy night at the home of the British High Commissioner. The following morning, I flew to London, attending, on the 20th, a Service of Thanksgiving at Westminster Abbey  commemorating the passing of Lady Mary Soames this past May.

Which brings us full circle.

Upcoming: A post about the revival of C.W. Dixe & Sons, Winston Churchill’s longtime eyeglass makers.
A post about Davidoff’s new line of Winston Churchill-estate-sanctioned cigars.
And more.

Stay tuned.
